Missionary Work

Tanzania

Mahon Methodist Church has always been a strong supporter of the work in the Mission Field.
Timothy Reid and Judith Proctor have both gone to Africa on Mission work and have amazed us with their stories and slides showing them on site, getting their hands dirty and also witnessing to the local people. In 2005 Judith will be going to Tanzania with a work party from the Methodist Church in Ireland. There will be 6 people from the Portadown Circuit going. They will carry out building work and gospel witness in schools, orphanages and in the prisons. A container will go ahead of them with materials and equipment needed. Each year Mahon makes a special appeal at Christmas time and this year we have decided to support the group going to Tanzania.

Our Sunday School children support two Mission workers. Margaret Hindmarsh is a CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) worker based in Holland and they are delighted to be able to help her with the work. She regularly visits the Sunday School to give a report when she is home on leave.
Mark Templeton is also supported by the Sunday School. He has been to Zimbabwe for the 2nd time this year and we look forward to hearing from him about those trips. Mark is also a freelance Methodist Minister and is we are always pleased to have him in our pulpit.
Our MWI (Methodist Women of Ireland) is a Mission based organised for the women of the Methodist Church. They meet monthly and usually have a speaker on the subject of Mission.

Spring Concert

Tanzania

In July of this year a group of about 45 people went to Tanzania with MMS. One of those was Judith Proctor, who is a member of Mahon Methodist Church. This wass the second time Judith had gone to Africa and we like to do all we can to support her. In the past we have raised funds for the work of the teams and and our effort this year was to stage a Spring Concert in our church hall on Friday 13th May (yes Friday 13th). The programme was varied, with some of our own children, the Girls Brigade from Thomas Street, Jack Wolsley, the Mahon Choir and members of the Fiddly Styke Orchestra taking part. Being Methodist of course, we finished the evening with a cup of tea. It was a great evening and the hall was packed to capacity. We were delighted with the money raised, all of which will all go to the Tanzania Appeal. We cannot all go to Africa, but we can all help those who do. We hope this money may just make someone’s life a little better and that they may come to know the Lord Jesus through this group.
