Beliefs
The founder of the Methodist Church laid down Our Beliefs.
These have become known as the Four Alls of Methodism
1. All need to be saved
Sin is a deep-seated
self-seeking from which no-one is immune. The Bible states simply: All
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
(Romans 3 v 23)
2. All can be saved
Gospel means good
news - we cannot save ourselves but have in Jesus Christ a Saviour.
None need be excluded from this salvation, for God sent the Son
into the world that the world might be saved through him
(John 3 v 17)
3. All may know themselves saved
We come to a total
knowledge of salvation through the promises of God in scripture, the intense
conviction of Gods graciousness to us individually, and a different
outlook on life, leading to a changed quality of living
(Romans 8 v 16)
4. All may be completely saved
John Wesley regarded
this doctrine as the reason for Methodisms existence and for its
task which was to spread scriptural holiness throughout the land.
Being saved completely means being made perfect in love
(Hewbrews 7 v 25)
